Jodie recently was a really good sport riding along with Daniel and me on our trip to Packard Children’s. I don’t usually bring any of the other kids with us to Daniel’s appointments for two reasons. Number one is I don’t want to be distracted during the exam and office visit because I might miss something or forget something I want to discuss about Daniel. The other reason is the drive is often a long one. It’s a lot to ask of the other kids I believe so I usually try to schedule his appointments for times that I know the girls will be in school or otherwise engaged. But this was an unplanned office visit and with her older sisters off to camp and a wedding, Jodie had to come along.
She did pass the time with her cheerful conversation as we drove through Tracy, Mountain House, Livermore, Fremont, Niles Canyon, Newark, Redwood City, San Mateo and finally, Palo Alto. She was absolutely thrilled as we drove over the Dumbarton Bridge. As we drove through Palo Alto she remarked that this was the kind of town she wanted to live in….she hasn’t clued into things like cost of living yet. She then realized that Stanford University is here!
Mom! This is where Stanford University is! That is one of the best universities, you know. You have to be really smart and get good grades to be able to go there…..I get good grades and I’m really smart. Maybe I could go here. That would be perfect because I really love Palo Alto and I would be close to home so I can home on weekends and visit you an do my laundry. What do you think? Do you think I can go to Stanford?
She paused long enough for me to tell her if she kept on getting the grades that she does and really wants to then of course she could go to Stanford. I was going to ask her what her major would be but she was already off again…
Great! Then that is what I will do. I’ll just keep on getting straight As because this is where I want to go to school.
So it is decided, for now. Her plans might change somewhere between 4th grade and high school. Until then…..GO CARDINALS!!!!
