name police karma

If you have been hanging out for awhile here under the Big Top you should know by now that I see my next career step as the name police. But karma can be an evil bitch even for the self-appointed name police.

Don’t believe me? Eavesdrop in on this recent conversation:

Holly: (while thumbing through the 100,00 Baby Names book) So I’m thinking of “this name” if it is a girl.

Mom: Okay.

Holly: What?

Mom: What do you mean what?

Holly: You don’t like it.

Mom: I didn’t say that.

Holly: Your face does. You don’t like it.

Mom: It’s not that its…Well,…

Holly: Mom! What’s wrong with “this name”?

Mom: Nothing, nothing at all.

Holly: Mom!

Mom: Okay, fine. It’s just that it is really trendy right now. Practically every other baby girl that comes through my unit has “this name”. Can you imagine what first grade will be like for her with 5 other classmates with “this name”? If that is okay with you then it is fine with me. Really.

Holly: Fine, I’ll just name her “Nevaeh“.

Mom: Gawd NO! Puheeeeze??!!

Holly: (grinning in an evil way that resembles, well, me!) Well, at least I will know how to spell it.

Karma can be such a bitch.

Stop laughing.

Remember, karma is a bitch.

  1. Please, please, PLEASE don’t name her that!!! Good Gosh!! So many Nevaeh’s running around…

And I agree with you, Laura, she needs to find an original name, one that her child won’t have 5 other children to share it with in school – I think I graduated with 7-8 other Jennifer’s in high school :X

Besides, Holly is so original herself, she needs to have an original name for her baby :)

  2. When I went to college I was in an all girls dorm – fairly good sized building, 3 floors… and 38 Jennifer’s! ahhhh!!!

When we were pregnant we made a pact. I pick the girls first name and boys middle name. He’d pick the boys first name and girls middle name and neither could say anything about the others choices.

I’m really glad we had a girl… I hated his boys choice… ya karma will bite me with the next one, I’m sure!

  3. LOL, Karma!

It is so hard picking names. I really feel for Holly, especially if she has a girl on board. So many gorgeous names but have to agree that it is good to avoid the more popular names. On the other hand, you don’t want one that is too out there… Nevaeh is not a name I have heard too often here but can imagine it being very popular!
    Go the name police!

  4. Thanks for submitting your post to the Carnival of Family Life which I am hosting this week for the first time!

I agree. That would be a terrible name.

Have you considered hosting? It is a great deal of fun . . . check out the schedule at Colloquium.

Thanks for participating and blessings to you and yours this Thanksgiving weekend!
