survivors

Well, once again my circus clowns came, saw and, if not quite conquered, at least survived their first day of school.

Really, it is only coincidence that Jodie and Daniel are color coordinated. I guess they are on the same khaki wave length.

Daniel decided after the first ten minutes of school that it was good to be back with his friends and his very favorite teacher’s aide, Mr. J. Plus eating lunch in the school cafeteria with his buddies is probably the best thing going on this year. Now he needs to gain the stamina to get through his busy seven hour day of learning, socializing and playing hard. He crashed and burned less than hour after I picked him up this afternoon. Thank goodness for the sugar buzz of otter pops!

Another survivor is my right hand. I filled out and signed the quadruplicate school forms as well as individual teacher/class forms for each of the kids and I did it before bedtime. Not bad for the PTA reject mama.

Where is everyone?, Hazey-Face seems to be asking.

It is a lot quieter around here with everyone at school and work all day. We’ll see how much I can get done around here. So far today, not too much.

don’t wanna go to school!

It’s the first day of school here under the Big Top!

And the parents cheer with jubilation.

The kids, are non-committal, resigned, quietly excited and all-out defiant. Daniel questions this whole idea of him returning to school. After all, he did complete kindergarten just this past June. He already learned everything he really needs to know. His teacher said so. Isn’t that enough, he argues?

Um, no.

So today, in honor of my first grader, I play his own personal anthem.

Here’s to a great year for my first grader, my newly minted junior higher, my sophomore and my junior! Good luck kids! Make good choices!
