five generations

Not everyone can boast that they are fortunate enough to have their great-great grandmother in their lives. Hazel (and her cousin Kaya) can.

But Hazel, like mommy, can boast that she is named for this great lady in her life.

Whenever I see Hazel the First and Hazel the Second with their heads together engaged in private conversation, my heart just warms as I recall memories of Holly Austa sharing secrets with Austa.

How lucky!

Five generations: Hazel Faye – daughter of Holly – daughter of Bill – son of Dorothy – daughter of Hazel.

If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all the generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.

  1. Thank you for this wonderful post, Laura. I love that Holly named Hazel after Holly’s great-grandmother. Hazel the First looks like such a lovely and beautiful woman, and I can tell that she has touched many lives. What a blessing to have a great-great grandmother; wow! Having lost my last grandparent a few months ago your blog really spoke to me, and I’m grateful that Hazel has the blessing of so many generations of family to love, encourage, and teach her.

  2. I have a 5 generation photo that was taken about a year before my Grandmother passed away that I treasure. It has My Grandmother, my Mother, myself, my Son, and my Grandson (who was 5 at the time)….. I’m glad we didn’t put off getting together and taking it any longer than we did.
