About

Hi there! I am Laura, a.k.a. the Master Juggler under the Big Top that is my life.

My life is indeed a circus with a darling husband, five cute and sometimes cuddly clowns (Holly, Zoë, Abby, Jodie and Daniel), new attractions that are my amazing grand-daughters, Hazel and Fallon, two goofy dogs (Buster and Betty)and my own personal but randomly unannounced peri-menopausal hot flashes that make me want to re-think my personal philosophy that it is ‘great being a girl’.

As if that wasn’t enough to keep me occupied I work in a busy Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as a Registered Nurse. I truly believe that I was meant to be in the NICU caring for the tiniest of patients. I would have never met my son were it not for my vocation and I won’t hesitate to share my passion for prematurity awareness and adoption.

This is my adventures in juggling and I am blogging all about it for your pleasure, for mine and, most of all, for this amazing circus of mine.

  1. Hi! I stumbled upon your website while looking for a picture of my old fisher-price wooden high chair I used for my daughter. I was getting ready to sell it on craigslist, but after seeing how you refinished it, I have been inspired to hang on to it and do the same. I’ve been reading through your blog and really enjoy your musings. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. hi there, nurse laura :)

  6. Hi Laura,

I stumbled across your blog while doing some research for a project my company is working on. We’re creating a virtual-tour program that takes place in the NICU, and we’re looking to interview real NICU nurses to get a feel for what the day-to-day is like.

I’d be happy to give you more details, but the basics are as follows: $250 for an hour interview, which will be conducted by one of our medical writers (she’s also a former nurse). The point is just to show our program users how patients go through the unit and how decisions are made.

You can email or call me anytime if you’re interested, and please feel free to pass this along to any NICU nurses you know!

    Thanks,

    Cayce

  7. Laura,

Your “About Me” is freakin’ hilarious.

Anyhow, my name is Tony. I’m currently a nursing student at the University of Washington. I’m doing a small marketing project on nurses who blog and those who blog about nursing. I have a small advertisement that I was wondering if you could post up on your blog. I have a very small marketing budget for this project, but I would be willing to offer you $30 dollars to post my advertisement.

Let me know if you can! Hope to hear from you soon!

  9. Love your About. My husband tricked me through meno.. by asking me, every time I flushed, “OK, so who are you fantasizing about?” His theory was that my hormones were in overdrive and he might as well join the fun by trying to get me to tell him stories. A much better game than waiting for it to be over. My niece is a NICU nurse. Awesomely important work you all do.
