oh October!

This was today in my neck of the woods this afternoon while picking up a couple of my clowns from school.

Oof!

It is supposed to be Fall. It is October! I did not complain at all in September about the heat…not at all. But now it is October and I have pretty cardigans to pair with pretty tops and skinny jeans and closed toe shoes.

Come on October!

Work with me here!!

But regardless of the fact that October can’t seem to recognize that it is Fall and time for the seasons to change in my neck of the woods, one thing is changing here in California…like it or not. The CHP is cracking down on distracted driving

all distracted driving…

cell phone use

texting

fiddling with your music playlists

or your GPS

eating

putting on makeup

breaking up World War III amongst the kids in the back of the mom-car

shaving

anything that takes your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel for even a second.

Oof!

Commence the whining, bitching and moaning over your personal liberties and the right to pursue happiness while texting, talking on the phone, eating, putting on makeup or shaving while driving is being infringed upon…

Shaving?

Really?

Personally I am on Team CHP on this issue. Not because we need to be policed on common sense issues but because we do need to be because we all believe such things apply to everyone…everyone but us because we CAN multi-task and drive a car safely…even if statistics and traffic studies and road tests prove other wise. I thought so eleven years ago until I reached down on the floor of my mom-car next to my feet to retrieve a toy one of my much younger clowns tossed…

and crashed my car into a pole while driving only 20 miles per hour.

I totaled my car.

I scared my kids.

I cracked two ribs.

I was distracted for but a blink of an eye and as an expert juggling mom I am a multi-tasker goddess.

Yeah.

But you still have an issue with the CHP policing what you can or can not do safely while driving a car. Lets not even consider the mayhem caused on the road by distracted driving or the tragedy…because that would NEVER be you. How about the hefty fine…and the points on your driving record?

Yeah.

Just suck it up and obey the law.

Yeah.

and today this…

Five days was not nearly enough time for face time and hug time and cuddle time with our Zoë. Not nearly enough time especially since we had to share her with dear friends from high school. Perhaps next time she can get away from work, school and the beach life of Santa Monica we won’t share her so much with her BFFs

Perhaps.

Dropping her off (reluctantly) at the airport, she seemed so small to me…even though she is as tall as me. She’s still my little girl…my little girl with her super awesome kiddie suitcase that she picked up just for this trip home.

It’s a good thing that she got on the plane back to LA when she did because a giant red rabbit was spotted leaping through the new Terminal B at Sacramento International Airport.

This week’s Focus 52 prompt is all creatures big and small.

magical

After a week of watching Jodie work her magic dancing on stage, we spent our last day in Tahoe just walking around…down to the lake because, OMG, Lake Tahoe, people. It’s the best lake in America…and then hiking back uphill to Heavenly Village for some grub.Dudes! Fire + Ice Grill + Bar…you MUST eat there! After a delicious lunch, with our bellies full, we continued to wander around with no idea what to do for the rest of the day and evening…a nap…maybe swimming…watch the Olympics…definitely a nap. Whatever our plans would be, it didn’t matter. It had been a great week together just the dancer and dance mom.

It was then that Jodie noticed someone whom we have met before.

“Mom, look! It’s that magician we met at the circus. It’s Alex Ramon.”

Sure enough, it was. We had fun meeting Alex…again…and telling him how much fun Ringling Brothers’ Zing Zang Zoom Circus was for us. It turns out that Alex is in Tahoe performing his show, Illusion Fusion, which he invited us to. So now we had plans for our night…after a nap.

Go see this show! Seriously. It is family-friendly, mesmerizing entertainment with a lot of audience participation.

Are you surprised that Jodie got in on the act?

I’m not.

Did I take pictures, she later wondered?

Oh honey please!

I’ll say it again. Go see this show. It truly was the perfect way to end our week in Tahoe.

And now we have magical memories to bring home along with something special for Daniel so that he might learn some of Alex’s tricks.

moments like this

So what do you do when one of your favorite aunts invites you, just you, to come spend a week at her house in Santa Cruz the last time you and the family came for a visit and you can’t stop talking about it, thinking about it, begging mom and dad to let you go and then can’t seem to get a hold of one of your favorite aunts by phone or text?

You get your mom to blog your request because you really, really, really want to accept one of your favorite aunt’s invitation. You also promise to be really, really good, neat and clean and to not eat too much because you really, really, really want to spend a few days with one of your favorite aunts.

LOL

Sorry Toni, he made me do it.
