And on the third day after the election that feels like America Is Mortally Wounded, we are still here? Aren’t we?
Yeah, we are.
Some might suggest that we are going to be okay…and I want to believe it. I do. But when your POTUS-elect runs on a platform of xenophobia, misogyny, fear and hate, it brings all the cray-crazies out.
We are still here.
For some of us, we try to be optimistic because America is already great and one crazy reality TV star is not going to destroy what our Founding Fathers built…right?
Others are woke, emboldened and exercising their First Amendment Right and I see nothing wrong with that at all because
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the free speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It’s our right. It’s their right. It’s even this asshole’s right…even if he verbally and visually assaults people like my daughter on a daily basis.
Hurray for the Bill of Ri-ights!
Take note though, IT’S NOT OKAY TO BURN AND BLOW SHIT UP Oakland, Portland. We are so much better than that. But yes, it’s our right to take to the streets, assembled and march against an election process where the candidate who had the most votes doesn’t win. It’s okay to march against the xenophobia, the hate, the misogyny.
It’s okay to take a stand. Stand up to the hate anyway that you can. Take. A. Stand.
You are safe with me. I will stand with those who feel in danger because of gender, sexuality, race, disability, religion, etc. I will stand by their side against oppression, ignorance and intolerance.
I am here for you.
I will stand with you.
You are safe with me.
It’s a small gesture but it is a pure one. It’s a start. It’s but a small spark and, as the song goes, it only takes a spark. Bullies, racists and the Brother Deans take note, I will stand next to anyone you choose to target because your POTUS-elect makes you feel that this is okay.
Your hate, your ignorance will never, ever make America Great Again.
