5,6,7, fixed

So about Stitch Fix…

It’s been awhile and three boxes later, I have to confess that I came very close to thinking that perhaps the scrubs and t-shirts and shorts and jeans kind of girl that I am just might not be Fix-able.

Stitch #5:

Looked very cute packaged in the box and on paper. But nope times three. Sorry. Can’t lie. Bu-ut, there was two wins.

The London Times Sandra Maxi Dress

and the Bash Eaton Knit Top

Don’t judge, it was an incredibly bad hair day, no makeup and sleep deprived because I remain, always, Vampira the Night Shift Nurse.

Stitch Fix #6 came the following month.

And it proved to be a lot of nope because one can have too many maxi dresses…really. Also I was becoming weary of all the polyester. Being the scrubs and t-shirts and jeans kind of lady that I am, I was beginning to realize that I am also a natural fibers kind of girl too. Yes, I told my stylist that. I also included that one of the tops I actually did kind of like (in spite of the polyester) except it was missing a button. It was then that I learned that I could always request another. The fact that my stylist followed up apologizing for the product defect really pleased me. I’m all about good customer service and follow up. But there was one keeper because there was a wedding reception to attend.

The Le Lis Raven Dress

Then came Stitch Fix #7 and I was glad that I offered so much feedback and listened to my stylist.

It’s Fall y’all and it was all packed up in this Stitch Fix delivery. Too bad it was literally over 100º when it arrived because that, my friends is Fall in the Central Valley. Still…

The Urban Expressions Valerie Convertible Satchel doesn’t care what the temperature is.

Literally the most amazing bag that holds everything and looks good, so good. When your 13 year old son, your darling husband and your 21 year old daughter (who is pretty much never home because of school, work and 21 year old life is in the way) notice the bag and tell you what a great looking bag that is you know it is a keeper.

The Loveappella McGraw Two-Tone Stripe Knit Top

Fit like a dream with the perfect drape…and the cut-out in the back…perfect and kept.

Ignore the dirty mirror as I was ignoring the fact that it was 104º when I was wearing this and taking this picture. It’s better that way.

Next the Just Black Faye Skinny Jean and the RD Style Giana Open Drape Cardigan

With the bag too…we’re both ignoring the dirty mirror and the triple digits, right? Right. It might be hotter than balls but that sweater will be perfect come Winter…El Niño or no…please El Niño! Please, please, please! And the charcoal grey skinny jeans fit like a dream and definitely a keeper for Fall and Winter and Spring. Keep and keep!

Finally the Renee C Edmondo Stud Detailed Split-Back Blouse

LOVE! But this one pictured in the dirty mirror was too tight. But I wanted it…and with the 25% discount if I kept all five fixes it literally would be free because 25% off. I wanted it even more. But it didn’t fit. So I emailed my stylist with my dilemma asking if I could get the next size up? Of course, she answered back right away!  Oh happy day! I sent the too small blouse in the postage paid bag included in the shipment and three days later the right sized blouse arrived.

So the lesson learned for me is feedback is so important with fixes. So is taking advantage of social media so your stylist can see what interests you…that bag, those jeans, more natural fibers…pinned them all. I also learned that exchanges are just too easy. So is the follow up after the exchange to make sure that I was more than satisfied. Who knows what the next Fix will bring next month?

We shall see.

fixed again #4

After last month’s Stitch Fix, I could not wait to see what I might find in this month’s Stitch Fix box.

I requested Suzanne as my stylist again since her picks last month were so perfect. I also specifically asked for a little black dress for my sister Ange’s bachelorette party in August. With a quick peek I could see that she was listening and looking at my Pinterest boards.

But first, let’s see what else is in the box. First up, Skies Are Blue Abiga Lace Detail Knit Tank:

Ignore the dirty mirror, okay? Thanks. From the front it appears to be a simple tank. Comfortable and light enough for a hot summer day.

The main interest and detail is in the back. Very pretty. I like it a lot. But I have already a couple of navy tops so…returned.

Next is Brixon Ivy Coco Swiss Dot Lattice Detail Blouse:

Out of the box this blouse and camisole is adorable but…

It’s a little too tight in the chest which is kind of disappointing for an average sized bust kind of girl. So…returned.

Next is Skies Are Blue Karla Textured Short which I am wearing in the above photo.

Cute detailing the front but the material was just too much polyester which seemed to call attention to assets that I’d much rather not call attention to…returned.

Next out of the box is Bay to Baubles Staten Pendant Necklace

Very pretty. But I already have a similar piece…returned.

But saving my specific request for last, out of the box is Kut From The Kloth Lanee Lace Dress.

Suzanne was right. This dress is very similar to the LBDs that I had pinned recently. On the hanger, I just loved all the details of this dress. I told Suzanne that I needed a LBD suitable for an evening on the town in Seattle with a wedding party that is twenty years younger than me. I wasn’t looking to dress like my grandmother but at the same time Idid not want something that would definitely look better on my 32 and 28 year old younger sisters.

This is perfect, Suzanne! Thank you! I knew that you would come through…kept!

After four Stitch Fix boxes, I am kind of hooked. I’m seeing fashion finds that I don’t always find in and around the Central Valley and that I might not consider even trying on. I get to try on in my own home and style it what is already in my wardrobe thanks to the style cards included. It’s fun. It’s convenient and it’s affordable. I can’t wait to see what the next Fix brings me.

another fix, the third time is a charm edition

Honestly, what can be lovelier than a package waiting for you

Especially a pretty, pretty package from Stitch Fix.

Out of the box, also pretty exciting stuff. I couldn’t wait to try  everything on. But first, a shower because I found my Stitch Fix delivery after a really sweaty 4 mile run.

My latest Fix was styled by Suzanne. As excited as I was to see what she had for me, I found myself more impressed and touched with the personal note she included sending continued good health wishes for my darling husband. Suzanne, you don’t really know me except through this blog and what I have pinned on Pinterest or liked on Instagram yet you take the time to send wishes like that? You made me my heart warm and smile on the inside. Thank you! Bill is doing so much better, back to work and honestly counting so many blessings, prayers, well wishes from friends and strangers alike, luck, good fortune and just being thankful for it all. We all are here under The Big Top!

But what, pray tell, has the lovely Suzanne chosen for me?

While Zelda settled into the box, apparently chosen just for her, I checked out my latest Fix.

Market & Spruce: Austin Polka Dot & Striped Mixed Material Shirt

So comfortable! Great fit! And when your 20-something daughter notices it and declares it to be a great top, it’s a win.

KEEP

Pixley: Jimson Zipper Detail Top

Light. Breezy. Flattering fit. Interesting sipper and mesh detail.

KEEP

Muse: Harrie Maxi Dress

Perfect fit. Perfect length. Paired with some cute strappy sandals, bangles and, for an evening chill, a jean jacket, this will be perfect for a date night or, perhaps a wedding rehearsal coming up soon.

KEEP

Market & Spruce: Maldon Embroidered Detail Knit Top

Another light and breezy top that fits perfectly and is perfect for summer. I will admit that I was on the fence about this top because the collar seemed a little weird and “priest-like” to me. But I wore it to a graduation party and, after a few compliments, decided that perhaps I’m the one who was being a little weird.

KEEP

Bancroft: Alize Hammered Oval Bracelet Set

Delicate silver and gold bangles that paired very nicely with my new watch as well as alone. I have literally worn them every day since receiving the Fix.

KEEP

That’s right, I kept all five. Suzanne nailed it! With the Buy 5 Discount, I actually got one of the tops for free. Added bonus!

I’ve requested Suzanne for my next Fix.

You can do that you know?

You can.

So yes, I requested Suzanne again with the hopes that she can help me come up with a look for a bachelorette party that I will be going to later this summer.I was sure to leave a note about that to Suzanne as well. I can’t wait to see what she will put together.

The third time was definitely a charm. Not that I wasn’t disappointed with my first or my second Fix. What I learned this Fix is exactly what one can find on Stitch Fix FAQ: feedback, feedback, feedback is key. How do you like clothes to fit. What do you absolutely HATE. What you do on a daily basis. Also following Stitch Fix on social media and interacting with them, liking and commenting on what strikes your fancy. What I pinned on Pinterest has helped as well as Suzanne definitely selected items similar to what I have been pinning lately. This Fix was a win and I can’t wait to see what the next one will be.

Fixed for the very first time

I will admit it. I am in a rut when it comes to what I wear every day. If I am not wearing jammies while dropping my son off to school, I am wearing, as I go about my usual juggling kind of day, rumpled scrubs or tee shirts (or sweat shirts or sweaters) and jeans or running leggings paired with a singlet or running tee hidden under a denim shirt with my sweaty hair tucked under a ball cap or slouchy, knit hat.

I know a certain sanctimommy blogger recently declared leggings and yoga pants to be offensive when she stated that she would no longer wear them because it vexed her husband so imagining all of us slutty women galavanting out and about town wearing our slutty leggings and yoga pants but lately that is pretty much the uniform as I’m training here…not that I would imagine any poor, innocent man is actually checking out my 53 year old butt that propels me to run more than 30 miles a week while training for The 5th annual Modesto Half Marathon. I really don’t have time, nor do I care. Besides, why should I say anything to answer her argument when Carly pretty much shut that stupid, sexist nonsense down better than anyone else.

Still, sometimes when I get a side glance of me in the mirror, I notice that in spite of a closet that screams for some serious editing and updating, I am in a rut…jammies, scrubs, jeans, sweaty running clothes.

Ugh!

Then I noticed a co-worker’s Facebook post sharing her latest Stitch Fix and I was curious and inspired. So I followed the link she shared…you’re welcome S!…and I decided to check out this thing that everyone else I know online and all of Pinterest is enjoying.

Seems simple enough. Why not?!

Will a scrubs and t-shirt & skinny jeans wearing kind of girl find happiness in this box? We shall see.

Inside my first fix is a note from my stylist, Janelle, who after reading through my profile and checking out my Pinterest boards selected five different items along with several styling options.

Loving the colors! Let’s try them on!

The 41Hawthorn Moni Geo Print & Camisole Blouse – $58. LOVE the color, not too wild about the trim. Ultimately, it was too tight in the shoulders so no.

Collective Concepts Maisy Geo Print Dress – $88.00. What a cute dress this is! I imagine that Janelle is right; this would look perfect with nude kitten heels. The only problem is that although it is my size, I can’t zip it up past my upper waist. No.

Next 19 Cooper Cathleen Split-Neck Tulip Sleeve Blouse. This color with my hair and my eyes…YES! Too tight again in the shoulders and arms…no!

Apparently I have man shoulders thanks to kettle bells.

Bay to Baubles Aditi Spade Earrings $28.00. These fit perfectly! I was going to keep them but at the very last minute, three days later influenced probably by sleep deprivation and stress from Bill’s heart attack, I changed my mind. Ultimately, I didn’t like the way they looked with the length that my hair is right now. I knew I wouldn’t wear them right now so decided to send them back. Perhaps another fix as my pixie cut continues to grow out.

Mavi Gold Nigel Skinny Jean -$138. A little bit pricier than what I spent on my last pair of jeans, but…the cut, the quality of the material and the way they fit literally every curve and the length of my legs perfectly, I would say worth it. Yes, please!

So there you have it. My very first Stitch Fix. Not really a fail. I had a chance to see potential fashion possibilities, that I might not necessarily even consider for me because I am stuck in a t-shirt & jeans, rumpled scrubs, running tights kind of rut. We need to work on sizing and fit which is what the return survey and message to my stylist is for. I told how the returned items fit, or didn’t fit and things I might like to see. Following Stitch Fix on Pinterest and Instagram gives me ideas for possible fixes that I might like that I can always let my stylist know too to help her out. We’re just getting started. Who knows what she will send me come April (I chose to receive my Fix every other month).
